TreadCal

I wanted a better calorie estimate for walking on an incline.

Treadmill incline settings aren’t consistent. Level 10 on one machine can be a different slope on another, so a calculation that starts from the console number starts off wrong.

TreadCal measures the slope instead. With the belt stopped, you set the iPhone flat on the deck and it reads the angle at each setting. That gives you a calibration for that treadmill.

The Apple Watch tracks the workout. The calorie estimate uses the measured incline, speed, body weight, and time. It deliberately leans low, and it tells you what lowers its confidence, like holding the handrails.

Each workout also records how much height you climbed and compares it to a hill or mountain. The app is still in development and needs testing on real devices before release.
